As your trusted Willow Grove air conditioning installation and maintenance experts, we know it’s going to be hot this summer. That being said, it wasn’t too long ago that we were all worried about saving energy and money by keeping our heating to a minimum. The same can be said for air conditioning. We’ve come up with a few helpful tips to save energy while you beat the summer heat.
- Turn it off during the day. There are two schools of thought. 1) Keeping the AC on during the day saves energy because it keeps your home at a constant temperature. 2) Turning it off saves energy. Well according to Jennifer Amann at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, turning it off is the best way to save energy and money. Your AC actually runs more efficiently at high speeds, so cooling your house down after you were away won’t use as much energy as you may have once thought. If you’re going to be out of the house for a while, simply turn off your AC.
- Turn your AC down before you go to bed. All modern air conditioning thermostats allow you to program your air conditioning. While it often stays hot through the night, make sure to program your AC or get in the habit of turning it down on cooler nights. There’s no sense in bundling up and blasting the AC.
- 78 Degrees isn’t bad at all. 78° is a good benchmark temperature if you’re trying to save energy. While a lot of people will want to go lower, you will quickly adjust to a slightly warmer temperature.
- Make sure your ducts are clean. Proper duct cleaning will increase the efficiency and longevity of your HVAC system. Additionally, clean ducts will improve indoor air quality, prevent mold buildup, and relieve allergies. Check it out!
